As a consequence of the Meeting held between PAGASA and Speaker Martin
Romualdez just six days earlier, the House Committee on Trade and Industry
requested for a Hearing in the morning of 29 April 2024. Invited was PAGASA
and chicken raisers group UBRA (United Broiler Growers Association) to share
with Congress as to which current laws may be inflationary in nature and
which ones need to be enacted to create an economic environment conducive
for investment and growth of the food production and retailing industries.
Early birds for the legislators (top photo) were Comm. Chairman Rep. Dr.
Frejenel G. Biron of the 4th Dist. of Iloilo (center), Comm. Sec. Valentino
R. Palanca, (beside Biron), Rep. Anna Victoria Veloso-Tuazon of the 3rd
Dist. of Leyte & Rep. Romeo S. Momo of the 1st Dist. of Surigao del Sur.
(Bottom L-R) Rep. Edvic G. Yap of Party List ACT-CIS & Rep. Erwin Tulfo
(ACT-CIS). Along the way, Rep. Tulfo got irritated and questioned representatives from
the DTI and DA as to what they were doing to tame inflation. He then
sarcastically demanded that prices be contained or reduced within a week; to
which PAGASA's Executive Director Steven T. Cua remarked on the video below.
Also, just a week earlier at the National Price Coordinating Council Meeting
chaired by Sec. Pascual, DA and DTI planned to set up a fund where these two
agencies can order grains and fresh produce equivalent to 10-days national
demand to act as buffer stock in times of supply crises by selling through
KADIWA Centers. |
