We applaud the respect accorded to the senior citizens of our society but would like to bring up the following points regarding the guidelines to implement Rule V, Section 14 of the IRR of R.A, 9257, otherwise known as the Expanded Senior Citizens Act 2003.

 The Philippine Amalgamated Supermarkets Association (PAGASA) led by its president, Steve Cua, attended a dialogue with DTI Director Victor Dimagiba regarding the implementation of the Expanded Senior Citizens Discount in supermarkets and grocery stores last May 19, 2005.

The Department of Trade and Industry has provided the guidelines on granting special discounts in special programs for senior citizens under Section 4, Paragraph (L) of Republic Act No. 9257, otherwise known as the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2003 and can be found here:

Senior citizens get 5% new discount on basic commodities |

Senior citizens are now qualified for a five percent discount on the prices of basic commodities aside from medicines, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) yesterday said.
