PAGASA guested once more on 14 May 2022 in the
teleradyo program of Alvin Elchico "Bida Konsyumer" with the President
of the Phil. Confederation of Grains Associations (PCGA) Joji Co to
discuss the possibility of selling rice at P20/kg as this was a campaign
promise of the presumptive President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.
Also discussed was what is expected of this new Admin. & what retailers look forward to in aid of an economic slump. |

concerns the next President must address immediately to alleviate the
plight of shoppers. Next stop is minute 41:00 to reply to the question who do u think is the best vote for President given the situation we are in? Finally, closing statement re. Elections in two days at 56.25. Guests
are former U.P. Pres. & now Pres. of Mgt. Assn. of the Phils.

U.N. WORLD FOOD PROGRAM MEETS WITH PAGASA REGARDING RELIEF GOODS |

Met online via Microsoft Team on 5 May 2022 with Kevin Howley (based in
Manila) and Ralph Ofuyo (based in Bangkok) of the U.N. World Food
Program. They wanted to tie up with PAGASA member-stores for food
supplies during calamities/disasters. Further discussions to follow. |

STC attended the Senate Public Hearing on proposed Excise Tax on Plastic
Bags on 25 April 2022. Simultaneously, there was a DTI Hearing on
Expanded Complaints Resolution too. PAGASA not represented in the

DTI-CPAB’s WEBINAR TO THE PUBLIC ON THE AMENDED RETAIL LIBERALIZATION ACT OF 2022 |

In
the morning of 7 April 2022, PAGASA attended DTI-CPAB's webinar on the
Amended Retail Liberalization Act of 2022 (which lowered the minimum
capitalization of foreign retailers planning to set up shop in the
Phils.). PAGASA Pres. STC asked: "Who will monitor the activities of
foreign retailers if they use different names in going online,
door-to-door & other retailing activities outside of their physical
stores? These will hurt the MSMEs who are already challenged." STC
didn't get a satisfactory reply from the speakers. Above is Sherwin Acob
from the Senate who gave a presentation on the said Act.

SECOND VISIT OF LAOTIAN ENVOY TO PAGASA OFFICE |

PAGASA's STC met on 7 April 2022 with Mr. Lao Nguon Eng/Commercial
Attache from the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in the Phils. It was his 2nd
visit to the PAGASA Ofc. His first one was almost exactly a year ago. He
is seriously exploring export of Cambodian rice to the Philippines
since it buys from Vietnam/Thailand and Cambodia exports rice to these
two. |
