Launching of Thailand Week 2023 happened on 30 March 2023 at SMX with Sen. Cynthia Villar, DTI Sec. Alfredo Pascual, Hans Sy, et. al. & three other batches of VIPs for photo opportunity. People are eager to get back to the usual grind after 3 years of absence. A lot of envoys/ambassadors from ASEAN (Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Brunei, etc.) graced the affair. STC had the honor of being introduced to the ambassadors of Thailand and Cambodia respectively. There were a lot of Thai exhibitors at this 4-day Trade Show.

SCREENING OF REGIONAL FOOD PRODUCTS IN BEHALF OF UPCOMING TRADE SHOW OF THE BUREAU OF DOMESTIC TRADE

REPLY OF SENATE BLUE RIBBON COMMITTEE TO PAGASA'S LETTER OF PLEA FOR IT TO ACT ON THE UNRELENTING HI

On 27 March 2023, PAGASA  received a hard copy of the letter from the Chairman of the Blue Ribbon Committee Sen. Francis Tolentino's Office in reply to PAGASA's request to immediately look into the cases of smuggled sugar into our ports & to act swiftly on replenishing the market with white refined sugar at more affordable prices. For the record, PAGASA signified to this Office and that of the Senate President to act quickly in behalf of the Buying Public for an item as basic as white sugar to be priced at more affordable levels than the average pricing of P108.00 per kilo.

 
EARTH HOUR 2023

On the eve of 25 March 2023, at exactly 8:30pm, all PAGASA Members were requested to cooperate and turn off all lights and electricals in their places of business in observance of Earth Hour worldwide by collectively conserving energy for one whole hour.

On 17 March 2023, STC attended the PRA online Planning for National Retail Conference & Exhibition 2023 as PAGASA has been invited to be part-organizer for NRCE the last few years.

PAGASA Pres. Steven T. Cua attended on 16 March 2023 PRA's Retail CEO Economic Briefing at Fairmont Hotel. PRA Pres. Rosemarie Bosch Ong gave an accomplishment report on activities during the height of the pandemic. PIDS Speaker Ms. Gonzales gave her fearless forecast for 2023 and Mr. Cordero updated attendees with supply on real estate space for retail. Steve also exchanged views with Lazada Chairman Rey Alimurong.

USDA FORUM ON STATUS OF THE ECONOMY

PAGASA was invited on 13 March 2023  to a Round Table Discussion at the Mactan Room of EDSA Shangri-la Hotel on Consumer Welfare, Nutrition and Food Security. After presentations were made by the DOST, PIDS, DTI and FEF's Dr. Prof. Ramon Clarete, former DA Usec. & now Laban Konsumer Pres. Mr. Jose Reaño commented, among others, that the SRP, for example, was doing more harm choking the trade industry than good. This gave STC the impetus to follow-through by informing DTI Asec. Atty. Ann Cabochan of how PAGASA feels about the inefficient effects of their SRPs on our pricing policies.

PHILIPPINE FOOD CHAIN LOGISTICS MASTERPLAN 2023-2033

On 10 March 2023, STC attended the first in a blended series of meetings at the DA Offices with Spanish Consultants sponsored by the ADB to come up with a first draft masterplan for the nation's 10-year Program for Food Chain/Fresh Produce. This Project is under the Office of DA Usec. Engr. Zamzamin L. Ampatuan. Representing SM is SVP Rey del Valle who coordinates all fresh produce supply chain for SM Retail.
